UPDATE: Tornado warning ended

Environment Canada has ended all tornado warnings for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.

Residents in the affected areas were told to take cover Tuesday night after weather agency said meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm that had the potential to produce a tornado, damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall.

All tornado warnings were ended before 9:30 p.m. and a severe thunderstorm warning was issued in its place.

While no funnel clouds were spotted in the area, a number of people reported heavy rainfall and strong winds.  The storm also caused power outages in parts of Windsor with over 2,000 EnWin customers reportedly without power around 9 p.m.

"This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches," the weather agency said as part of the storm warning. "If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately."
