Traffic concerns on Queen's Line being addressed

The Chatham-Kent Transportation Division is hoping to make some changes to the Queen's Line and Merlin Road intersection.

Engineering Technologist Mark Ceppi said a traffic study was done after there were several concerns regarding the rural intersection.

"If there are two vehicles, one eastbound and one westbound, attempting to make a left turn at the same time, they can't really see past each other," he said.

Ceppi said that he and his team have looked at multiple solutions and believe adding left turn lanes to the two-lane road will be the best solution to address the concerns, although he also said a roundabout is being considered. Currently, the intersection has a two way stop for vehicles coming from Merlin Road.

"Those left turn lanes would greatly enhance the intersection as far as improving the sight line issues for left turning vehicles and also reduce the passing on the right issue," Ceppi said.

In addition to the issues on Queen's Line, Ceppi said there are also concerns about the difficulty for drivers coming from Merlin Road who are trying to get across Queen's Line.

The recommendation will be discussed during Monday night's council meeting. Ceppi said the final solution will come down to funding.
