A court case involving an accused Chatham-Kent drug dealer has been delayed again.
Jonathan Toornstra, 35, was in the prisoner's box in Superior Court in Chatham for the first time on Monday to enter a plea on several drugs and weapons charges. However, his case was adjourned to October 16 and he remains in custody.
Toornstra has a new defence lawyer. Ken Marley has taken over for David Jacklin, who passed away from cancer August 27.
Toornstra is charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and careless use and storage of a firearm.
Chatham-Kent police seized $2.6 million worth of drugs after raiding a Chatham apartment in April of 2019. It's the biggest drug bust in Chatham-Kent's history. Officers seized cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, hydromorphone, GHB, ecstasy, morphine, and fentanyl. Other items seized included a handgun, ammunition, a digital scale, packaging materials, and $52,000 in Canadian cash.
Toornstra has been trying to get bail for several months.
