With more flooding expected along Erie Shore Drive this fall, public works crews in Chatham-Kent are taking action to provide temporary relief for property owners in that area.
A release from the municipality on Friday said Chatham-Kent public works crews have already added rock chutes and concrete blocks, sealed cracks in the road, cleaned out drainage, and milled and paved sections of the roadway.
More work is set to start on September 23, at which time staff will be installing even more concrete blocks along the centre line of Erie Shore Drive from 1.2 kilometres east of Bisnett Line to McGeachy Pond Conservation Area.
The work is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.
Because the blocks will be placed in the middle of the road, Erie Shore Drive will be reduced to one-way traffic -- only allowing vehicles to head east from Bisnett Line to Erieau Road. Traffic signs will be installed before the blocks go in, notifying motorists of the change.
In addition to that work, provincial officials with the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the “Provincial Disaster Assessment Team” (PDAT) have visited the site to assess the damage caused by the flooding and are expected to be "advising on their recommendations in the near term."
The municipality has also provided a detailed update to Ontario's Special Advisor on Flooding.
