A Chatham family is praying for the recovery of their loved one after she was involved in a gruesome industrial accident.
The victim's grandfather, Marien Hopman, posted on Facebook on Monday that his granddaughter Natasha Smids "got pulled into a piece of machinery by her hair" and "has massive damage to her head" after an industrial accident at Truly Green Farms at 162 Bloomfield Rd. just before 1 p.m. on Monday. He said his granddaughter was airlifted by air ambulance to London.
"Please pray for knowledge for the doctors and healing if it is the Lord's will," Hopman said. "Thank You my friends."
Chatham-Kent police said the 20-year-old greenhouse worker suffered life-threatening injuries. The London Health Sciences Centre said Smids is in critical condition, meaning there are major complications, the indications are unfavourable and death may be imminent.
The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
Natasha's grandfather posted an update on Facebook on Tuesday saying things don't look good.
"Thank You for all your prayers and concerns. At this point it does not look good," he said. "I can only say may God be glorified in either taking her home or in a supernatural healing."
Natasha was a rugby player and graduated from Ursuline College in 2018. She studies at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus.
