Every teacher's union in Ontario is now engaged in some form of job action.
The union representing the province's French-language teachers announced Tuesday that it will begin what it calls Phase 1 of its work to rule campaign on Thursday. The Association des enseignantes et enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO) said its action will affect mostly administrative duties.
The union, which received a strike mandate from 97 per cent of its members, will be in a legal strike position on January 16, 2020.
“Our members spoke, and they had much to say, AEFO listened to them and heard their message loud and clear,” AEFO President Rémi Sabourin said in a statement released Tuesday.
Members of AEFO are protesting mandatory e-learning for high school students and well as the decrease in course options for students.
“Today’s students are the future of Ontario. The success of Franco-Ontarian students is non-negotiable,” said Sabourin.
Despite the work-to-rule action, negotiations will continue this week. More meetings are expected at the end of the month.
AEFO represents teachers in the French Catholic school board, Le Conseil scolaire catholique Providence.
