The Chatham Maroons stopped the Komoka Kings just short of a comeback to win 6-5 on Thursday.
The Maroons surged to a 3-0 lead in the first period with Evan Wells, Zach Power and Dallas Maurovic scoring back-to-back goals. Power scored his second goal of the night just over 13 minutes into the first to extend Chatham's lead before the end of the frame.
Komoka made it on the board with a goal 6:30 into the second, but Brett Fisher responded just after the 10-minute mark to give Chatham a 5-1 lead heading into the third.
The Kings came back strong in the third by scoring three goals within the first seven minutes of the period. Riley Pawluk scored for Chatham 10:24 into the period, but Komoka continued to fight back by scoring twice to make it a one-goal game with just over three minutes left to play. The Maroons held on to keep the final minutes scoreless and earn the win.
Maroons goaltender Bryce Walcarius made 33 saves out of 28 shots on net.
The Maroons are back on the ice on Sunday when they take on the Sarnia Legionnaires. The puck drops at 7 p.m. in Chatham.
