Lambton-area farmers are reaping the benefits of a successful crop planting season in 2019.
Over 500 owners, specializing in cash crops like wheat, corn and soybeans, are splitting $120,000 in profits from the Wanstead Farmers co-op.
The co-op is 100 per cent farmer owned and is responsible for giving farmers input and marketing their products.
GM Peter Kelly said despite weather challenges this year, they saw an overall growth in sales and were able to streamline overhead costs.
"We did well," said Kelly. "It was a very, very difficult season both in the spring and in the fall. I think through proper management, and also working with our member-owners to ensure they have a complete picture of what's going on, we were jointly able to increase the profitability for all."
Meanwhile, the co-op voted to re-elect its current board at the recent Annual General Meeting.
Martin Gerrits from Wyoming remains as board president, while Rick Patterson from Petrolia is vice-president and replaces Joe Joosten who recently retired.
Norman Minielly from Watford remains as board secretary. It was also announced that Kevin Forbes of Sarnia is retiring from his role on the board.
