Chatham-Kent police are encouraging local residents to get to know their neighbours following a string of break-ins in the Chatham area.
Police said they were called to three different incidents on Monday, all of which took place during daytime hours.
In the first case, someone forced their way into a residence on Queens Line sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and took off with approximately $7,500 worth of jewellery.
The second break-in was at a residence on Inshes Avenue in Chatham, causing about $200 in damage. Police believe that incident took place sometime between 9 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Monday, adding that whoever broke in also took off with about $200 in jewellery.
Investigators said the third incident took place sometime between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at a residence on Northland Drive in Chatham. Police said someone forced their way into a residence on that street, again causing about $200 in damage -- this time, only a small quantity of jewellery was taken.
In response to the break-ins, police are encouraging local residents to get to know their neighbours better, adding that knowing people around you can bring a sense of security.
"By building stronger relationships with those in your neighbourhood, we build safer communities," said Constable Renee Cowell. "We would also like to remind everyone to be vigilant. If you see or hear anything suspicious in your neighbourhood, please call us immediately."
