A former patient has raised $30,000 for the inpatient mental health unit at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
Elisha Banks spent some time at the hospital as a patient when she was going through a difficult time. She wanted to give back to the staff that helped her and came up with the Music for the Mind Fundraiser.
On Friday, February 7, a number of local bands, including Blutonium, The Chasers, Toast & Jam, and Walkin' 47 performed at The Kent in Chatham. There was also a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and merchandise for sale during the event to raise money.
"The event was a huge success," said Mary Lou Crowley, President & CEO, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation. "I was inspired by the turnout and the incredible support shown for Elisha by all in attendance. It is clear that our Chatham-Kent community is passionate about supporting mental health, and I am so appreciative for everyone's contribution to our local hospital."
Banks also organized a number of community fundraisers, including a pizza night at Boston Pizza, a charity bingo at Riverview Gaming Centre, and an online auction. Originally her goal was to raise $5,300.
"CKHAF is so fortunate to be supported by individuals like Elisha who demonstrate incredible passion for local healthcare," added Gaye Thompson, board chair, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation. "The work of the foundation would not be possible without our fundraising partners in the community who are so motivated to make a positive difference."
