Suspect arrested in connection with Erie Shore Drive break-ins

Chatham-Kent police say they have caught the bandit who broke into seven residences and garages along Erie Shore Drive last month.

Police said approximately $10,000 worth of items were stolen and the break-ins caused about $1,000 in damage.

A big break in the case took place when officers chased down a stolen truck on April 28 and arrested the driver in connection with some offences that were unrelated to the break-ins. At that time, police said they learned that some property that was stolen from Erie Shore Drive was being stored at a residence in Chatham.

When officers showed up at the home to investigate further, they managed to recover several stolen items and have since returned the majority of them to their rightful owners.

Police said they have completed their investigation into the break-ins and as a result, a 34-year-old Chatham man has been charged with seven counts of break and enter along with one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent Police Chief Gary Conn also released a statement on the case, thanking "the citizens of Erie Shore Drive for their patience and cooperation", adding that "this investigation is a great example of community members and police working together to hold the person responsible accountable for their actions."
