WECHU provides parents resources for back to school

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is encouraging all parents and caregivers to talk to their kids about COVID-19 before heading back to school.

"Help them with their understanding of what COVID-19 is, how you put yourself at risk and, most importantly, when you are out with other children, other students, your friends, how do you behave," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, medical officer of health for Windsor Essex.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has a new webpage dedicated to information to share with kids about handwashing, personal hygiene, and physical distancing.

Dr. Ahmed said he continues to work will all local school boards to help them implement their safe return to school strategies.

"None of these plans you can say are 100 per cent safe. There's always certain levels of risk attached to it and everyone's risk tolerance is different," said Dr. Ahmed.

On Thursday morning, the health unit reported an additional 12 cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Among the cases are seven close contacts of previously confirmed cases, two agricultural workers, and three cases that remain under investigation. There are currently 82 active cases of COVID-19 in the community.
