A significant weather event declared by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent on Tuesday night has officially ended.
The municipality declared a significant weather event late on Tuesday after deploying all of its resources to clear the roads of snow earlier in the day. Due to safety regulations that outline limits for work hours, Chatham-Kent was unable to adequately staff snowplows overnight until around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
"Roads staff began working early this morning and need to rest," the municipality said.
A significant weather event is declared when the municipality cannot meet the minimum maintenance standards for local roads
“Drifting snow can cause recently cleared roads to become challenging to navigate. Please plan to stay at home wherever possible, or if you must travel, please allow extra time and drive with extra caution,” said Director of Public Works Ryan Brown in a news release.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent declared an end to the significant weather event as of 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
