Students coming home for the holidays urged to get tested

Post secondary students from Sarnia-Lambton, coming home for the Christmas break, are encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 at one of Lambton Public Heath's school testing centres.

Chief Nursing Officer Giovanna Good said the goal is to decrease the risk of community transmission, with students returning from all across the province.

She recommends that students limit social interactions a few days before leaving school, and once they get here they're encouraged to continue to follow public health guidelines.

"Some of these students may be coming in from jurisdictions with very high rates of community transmission of COVID-19," said Good. "We wanted to ensure the importation risk to our community remains low. We also want to relieve any undue pressure on our local assessment centres in our community and allow them the opportunity to care for those with more severe symptoms."

Student tests are being conducted until mid-January at the former SCITS high school, Kimball Hall in Forest, and at Lambton Centennial School near Petrolia.

You must pre-book an appointment by visiting app.getcorigan.ca, or by calling Lambton Public Health at 519-383-8331.

Students are asked to provide their OHIP number, the name of their primary care provider, current symptoms, and history of contact with a known COVID case.
