Addictions in Chatham keeping clinic busy

An addictions treatment clinic in Chatham is again extending its hours of operation because of higher demand for services.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) announced on Friday the Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine (RAAM) clinic will be open an extra day a week and will add one extra hour a day beginning January 21, 2021 to accommodate booked appointments. The new hours of operation will be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. CKHA said Thursdays will be dedicated to booked appointments only. The clinic has seen a "significant increase" in the number of people looking for help with their substance use issues since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and also had to extend its hours of operation in September to try and meet the increased demand for services.

The RAAM clinic has also returned its operations to its previous location at 47 Emma Street in Chatham. The clinic helps people with substance use disorder with treatment and support. Individuals do not need an appointment and are seen on a walk-in basis, except on Thursdays now.

The clinic moved temporarily to 240 Grand Avenue West, Suite 204 in Chatham to accommodate the COVID-19 Assessment Centre at CKHA’s 47 Emma Street building. In October, the assessment centre re-located to the St. Clair College HealthPlex, Chatham Campus to accommodate increased testing volumes and continues to operate out of that location.

The clinic can be reached directly during hours of operation at 519-352-6400, extension 6740.
