COVID-19 claims more victims in Midwestern Ontario

Three more residents of Midwestern Ontario have passed away due to the novel Coronavirus.

Huron Perth Public Health reported eleven new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, after several days of double digit increases. However, two more people have died due to the virus. In all, the region has seen 29 fatalities since the pandemic began. Five people are currently fighting the virus in hospital, and 290 contacts are self isolating. There are now 149 active cases. There are outbreaks in seven long term care and two retirement homes. Six residents from the hard hit Caressant Care homes in North Perth are being moved to hospital as efforts continue to get that out break under control. An outbreak also continues at Stratford General Hospital's Surgery Unit.

There was another fatality in Wellington County, where eleven people have now succumbed to the virus. Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health officials added eight new cases in Wellington, and five people are hospitalized.  Across that public health jurisdiction, there were 33 new cases Wednesday.  Eleven people are in hospital and a total of 62 people have died.  There are still 14 outbreaks in long-term care and retirement homes across Wellington, Dufferin and Guelph with a total of 10 deaths through the current situation.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added three new cases Wednesday, two in Owen Sound and one in Kincardine. There have been no fatalities in Grey Bruce, and there are no outbreaks at this time. Two people are in hospital. There are 30 active cases, one probable cases, and 96 high risk contacts.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
