The province has set Thursday, February 11 as the new target date for the resumption of in-person learning in Lambton-Kent schools.
Lambton Kent District School Board Director of Education John Howitt said it seems the dates align with the end of the provincial lockdown.
"From our understanding, that is the soonest date in terms of a set in stone," said Howitt. "However, I cannot predict whether or not there will be an extension to the provincial lockdown."
Howitt said when students return, there will be additional health and safety measures in place.
"There are some additional changes that were announced by the province when they announced the closure and the reopening," said Howitt. "Things like masking for grade one to three students and some other protocols, some testing. We're just gathering the details on those and will be communicating those to parents and families in greater detail as the date approaches."
In December, the province announced that there would only be remote learning in schools for one week after the winter break, and then extended that in southern Ontario until January 25.
Earlier this week, the government announced that only schools in seven public health units will reopen on Monday.
