Health officials in Windsor-Essex are reporting an increase of 36 additional COVID-19 cases.
According to the health unit, eight of Sunday's cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, two are community-acquired and 26 are still under investigation.
The overall case count in Windsor-Essex is now at 14,385. As of Sunday, there are 427 active cases and 12 hospitalizations. There have been 256 preliminary or confirmed variants of concern cases identified in the region.
There were no new COVID-19-related deaths reported on Sunday in Windsor-Essex. To date, 407 individuals have passed away locally.
The number of outbreaks in the region remained the same over the past day. There are currently five workplace outbreaks, two community outbreaks and two school outbreaks.
Meanwhile, vaccine efforts continue to pay off in Windsor-Essex.
As of Sunday, 91,686 first doses have been administered to local residents, up from 89,455 the previous day.
Across Ontario, Sunday's daily case count was a little grimmer. The province recorded a record high of 4,456 new cases. According to Health Minister Christine Elliot, there were 1,353 new cases in Toronto, 860 in Peel and 444 in York Region.
Currently, 1,513 people in Ontario are hospitalized as a result of the virus.
