A possible Listeria contamination has prompted a recall of Eat Smart brand Asian Sesame Chopped Salad Kits.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced the recall by Curation Foods. The company has recalled the 340-gram packages with a best before date of August 24. The product with a UPC code of 7 09351 30169 8 was sold in Ontario and possibly nationally.
The recall was triggered after testing by the food inspection agency found the possible Listeria contamination.
Anyone with the salad kit in their refrigerator is advised not to eat it and should either toss it into the garbage or return it to the store where it was purchased.
Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick, according to the CFIA. Symptoms of Listeria infection include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
There have been no reported illnesses linked to the recalled salad kit.
The CFIA is now conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
