If you're someone who keeps Tums around, you may want to double-check them after Health Canada recalled two different lots of tablets.
According to a release Thursday, GSK Consumer Healthcare ULC has recalled two packages of Tums Assorted Berries Extra Strength tablets, sold in 750-milligram bottles, with an expiration date of August 2025. Also being recalled are three-roll packages containing eight tablets each that expire in September 2025.
The company reported to Health Canada that it received a consumer complaint about an antacid tablet containing a small metal wire fragment inside.
"Consuming a metal fragment poses a potential risk of choking or injury (such as cuts or tears in the mouth and digestive system)," the advisory from Health Canada read.
The contaminated products were sold by Canadian stores between October 2020 and January 2021. The 100-tablet packs were sold individually and at Costco as part of a club pack with two different flavours, Health Canada said. The exterior club pack packaging is labelled with different lot numbers.
Those with affected tablets are advised to stop using the product and consult a healthcare professional should any adverse health concerns suspected to be related to the product arise.
