Over 20 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Midwestern Ontario Friday.
Huron Perth Public Health added ten new cases, and reported 62 active cases. There were three new cases in North Perth, and Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, two in Morris-Turnberry, and one each in Stratford and Perth East. Two residents are fighting the virus in hospital. 82.1% of the population is fully vaccinated.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit added seven new cases, and reported 34 active cases. Two new cases were in West Grey and one each in Arran-Elderslie, Brockton, Grey Highlands, Hanover, and Saugeen Shores. Two residents are fighting the virus in hospital. Four Cohorts are dismissed at Sacred Heart High School, two Cohorts were sent home from John Diefenbaker Secondary School, one Cohort is dismissed from Georgian Bay Community School, and one Cohort was also dismissed from Spruce Ridge Community School.83.4% of the eligible population is fully vaccinated.
Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported two residents hospitalized with the virus Friday. 86.3% of eligible residents are fully vaccinated. And unvaccinated people are 11.8 times more likely to be hospitalized with the virus than people who have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. There were 23 new cases in the jurisdiction, 13 of them in Wellington County. There are 21 active cases in Mapleton, and two in Minto.
The number of fatalities in the region is holding steady.
