Over a dozen new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Sarnia-Lambton Thursday.
Lambton Public Health reported 15 new confirmed infections and 11 resolved cases, increasing the active case count by four to 39.
Lambton Meedical Officer of Heealth Dr. Sudit Ranade said there's a lot of variability in case rates day-to-day and fluctuations are expected to happen. What will need to be monitored are how large the spikes are and the impacts it has.
"That's what we really need to focus on caring about now," he said. "Not that we're not worried about transmission at all, but I'm much more worried about transmission if it's leading to severe disease than if it isn't."
Since the start of the pandemic there have been 4,343 cases and 4,229 recoveries.
The death toll is unchanged at 75 and there is one active outbreak at Bluewater Health's complex continuing care unit.
There are six COVID-positive patients at the Sarnia hospital, up one from Wednesday.
