Nearly 600 people in Sarnia-Lambton rolled up their sleeves for their first COVID-19 vaccine last week.
Lambton Public Health said an overall 2,444 shots were given last week, for a total of 198,225 since the start of the vaccine rollout in January.
To date, 82 per cent of eligible residents, 12-years-old and up, are fully vaccinated, while 84.6 per cent have had one dose.
The health unit reported 12 new confirmed cases of the virus Wednesday, along with nine resolved cases, increasing the number of active infections by three to 40.
Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, there have been 4,384 confirmed infections, 4,267 recoveries and 77 local deaths. Bluewater Health had three COVID-positive patients in hospital, down one from Tuesday.
There are three active outbreaks, unchanged.
The weekly COVID incidence rate was higher for the second week in a row.
On Wednesday, Lambton Public Health reported the rate of infection per 100,000 population increased to 37.4 for the week of November 21 to 27, from 35.1 the week before. The positivity rate was also slightly higher at 2.8 per cent from 2.7 per cent.
