Government announces plan to lift measures at LTCs

Public health measures to protect against the spread of COVID-19 at long-term care homes will start to be lifted this month.

Starting February 7, each resident will be allowed four designated caregivers. Currently, they are only allowed two. Visits will still be limited to two people at a time.

Residents who have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed social day trips.

On February 21, general visitors five years and older who have had two doses of a vaccine will be allowed into long-term care facilities. Up to three visitors will be allowed at the same time. At this time, all residents will be allowed to resume social day trips and residents who have had a booster dose will be allowed overnight trips.

Adult day programs can also resume on that date. Entertainers and external personal care service providers will be allowed back into homes. Social group activities will be capped to 10 people at a time.

Finally, on March 14, general visitors under five years old will be allowed and the number of visitors will increase to four at a time. All residents will be allowed overnight absences.

Testing requirements for all staff, caregivers, and visitors continue to be in place.
