Ahead of the June provincial election, Ontario New Democrats have shown they are overwhelmingly in support of Andrea Horwath's leadership.
More than 85 per cent of delegates at the party's 2022 convention which was held over the weekend affirmed Horwath's leadership.
"I’m humbled and overjoyed," Horwath said of the vote results.
Under the Ontario NDP's constitution, delegates at each convention vote by secret ballot to support the current leader, or hold a leadership contest.
Horwath has led the party since 2009.
Speaking ahead of the vote, Horwath told the more than 1,100 delegates in attendance that an NDP government would come up with a comprehensive platform to make homes more affordable, raise minimum wage to $20, $10-per-day child care, and paid sick days.
The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) has also endorsed Horwath and the NDP ahead of the upcoming election. OFL President Patty Coates addressed NDP delegates on Saturday. She said her more than one million members from over 1,500 unions and affiliated locals voted to back the NDP at an annual convention held last November.
