Fundraising walk to help the homeless in Chatham-Kent

After going virtual last year, the Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk will be back in person in Chatham-Kent.

On Saturday, February 26, walkers will meet outside the former St. Agnes School on Croydon Street in Chatham before hitting the streets to raise money for NeighbourLink.

"What we're going to go is meet at around 4 o'clock, and then we'll have a few snacks, maybe some hot chocolate, then we'll send everyone on their way to do the walk," said Al Baker, the Network Coordinator of Chatham-Kent NeighbourLink.

But Baker added that this year's event can also be done online.

"We're having an on location gathering on walk day, as you said February 26. But we're also doing the virtual component because it was so successful last year, and people can walk any day in February."

In 2021, nearly $49,000 was raised with the virtual walk, and with two weeks to go before the walk, over $35,000 of their $50,000 goal has been raised.

All of the money raised goes to help the homeless in Chatham-Kent, and cover NeighbourLink's operating costs. NeighbourLink is a group supported by a network of local churches that works together to respond to needs in the community.
