A possible salmonella contamination has prompted a recall of nearly a dozen Easter-themed Kinder chocolate products.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced the recall by Ferrero Canada Ltd. on Wednesday. The company has recalled ten varieties of its Easter-themed Kinder chocolates, which were sold across the country.
The affected products include 110g and 182g Kinder mini eggs, 191g Happy Moments Kinder Confections Assortment, 200g Kinder Schoko-Bons, 186g Kinder Mix Egg Hunt Kit, 116g Kinder Mix 7 Easter treats, and three kinds of 100g Kinder Surprises.
Anyone with these recalled chocolates is advised not to eat them and should either throw them out or return them to the store where purchased. Anyone who has consumed one of the affected products and become sick is advised to call their doctor.
Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, according to the CFIA. Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
Currently, there have been no reported illnesses linked to the recalled chocolates.
