The Ontario Provincial Police warned drivers it would be watching for aggressive driving behaviours, and it was.
The OPP laid 9,392 charges during Canada Road Safety Week, which wrapped up on Monday. Police also responded to 935 collisions on the roads they patrol during those six days. Three crashes had fatalities.
Of those traffic charges, 8,020 were for speeding, while 138 were for stunt driving.
Another 216 were for impaired driving, and distracted driving accounted for another 177.
A total of 632 tickets went to drivers and passengers who neglected to wear a seatbelt.
"The results of this campaign reflect a firm commitment on the part of our officers and our valued policing partners to keep our roads safe," said OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique.
