Owners of former Navistar site starting to see positive results

The owners of the former Navistar property in Chatham are reporting that the site will be cleaned up by Christmas.

One of the owners, Don Tetrault, told CK News Today several companies are looking at the site and two tenants should be moving in soon. However, he can't say any more until the papers are officially signed in about two weeks.

Tetrault said one building is already up on the site and another will be up over the next month.

"Just tweaking our stormwater management on it and the foundation and hopefully we'll get that second building going here in about a month and have it done by the end of the year," said Tetrault.

Tetrault said the ownership group is taking its time to get the right mix of tenants at the property, adding they want to attract good-paying jobs while staying away from call centres.

"We're putting a road through [the site], we have people looking, we're doing RFPs [requests for proposals] for 25 acres of land that's shovel-ready for plants. We have two RFPs right now with economic development, who are doing a great job, and we're just waiting to bring the right clientele and the right dollar jobs," he said.

Tetrault said the price of doing business is going up all the time, but the investors keep finding ways to keep their budget under control.

"These buildings are going up so high in price, that's why we're buying buildings that are already built. Somebody else ordered and they cancelled and we're getting a break on the pricing. So, that's why we're buying them. They can be configured on the site as we go. So, we've been lucky that way," Tetrault.

The 80-acre property on Richmond Street is owned by Rob Myers, Don Tetrault, and Mike Vagi.
