Mother and daughters assaulted after asking for a light

A 34-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman and her two daughters Monday evening.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene on Blythwood Crescent in Chatham just after 7 p.m. Monday.

Their investigation showed that the man assaulted the mother first, pushing her to the ground after she approached him for a light for her cigarette.

Police said the woman's two daughters tried to intervene, at which point, the man hit one of the daughters in the face with his hand, causing her to fall to the ground.

He then allegedly pushed the other daughter, knocking her to the ground as well.

The man accused of knocking all three of the victims to the ground was arrested and charged with three counts of assault.

He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
