Team Canada's first time at the FIFA World Cup in over three decades has ended in elimination.
On Sunday afternoon, Canada was eliminated from knockout-stage contention after falling 4-1 to Croatia.
The Canadians started off strong, with 22-year-old Alphonso Davies making history, scoring Canada's first-ever men's World Cup goal just 68 seconds into the match.
However, Croatia quickly rallied from the deficit, scoring twice to lead 2-1 at the break.
Andrej Kramarić scored his second goal of the game in the 70th minute, giving Croatia a 3-1 lead. Mislav Oršić wrapped things up for Croatia, scoring the fourth and final goal for the team.
Forty-first-ranked Canada needed at least a point against 12th-ranked Croatia to keep its hopes of making it to the knockout round alive.
Despite the loss, Canada finishes up their time at the World Cup on Thursday against Morocco.
Prior to 2022, Canada had only made it to the World Cup once prior, back in 1986.
