Boil water advisory in effect for Wheatley and Tilbury

All consumers of the Chatham-Kent Municipal Water Distribution Systems for Wheatley and Tilbury are being urged to boil all tap water ahead of consumption.

Late Wednesday evening, the Municipality issued a boil water advisory for residents and businesses in the areas below:

You can also find a link here with more maps of the affected areas.

The Municipality cited the reason for the boil water advisory is due to a loss in water pressure through the distribution system. The advisory follows a fire that broke out at the Wheatley Water Treatment Plant early Wednesday afternoon, rendering the plant not operational for the time being.

"The Public Utilities Commission has implemented an emergency plan and have opened water interconnect systems and are currently feeding water into Wheatley from different regions," read a statement from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Wheatley and Tilbury residents will experience low water pressure until further notice and customers served by the South Water Treatment Plant, which includes the communities of Blenheim, Merlin, Coatsworth, Shrewsbury, Rondeau and Erieau, are asked to conserve water.

Residents impacted by the disruption are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for domestic purposes such as drinking, making infant formula and juice, brushing teeth, washing food and making ice. Residents may also consider using safe bottled water sources in the meantime.

More information about the boil water advisory will be provided through the Water Advisory Update Line at 519-436-3250.
