Canadians from coast to coast laced up their shoes on Sunday to commemorate the memory of Terry Fox and raise funds for cancer research.
The traditional Terry Fox Run is held annually throughout the country on the second Sunday following Labour Day.
Four events took place in Chatham-Kent, collectively raising over $90,000 in contributions for the cause this year.
The Dresden run began at the Royal Canadian Legion, raising $45,258.65.
The Tilbury Terry Fox Run started at the Tilbury Arena and raised more than $18,000.
The Wallaceburg run started at Civic Square Park on James Street, raising nearly $21,000. The Blenheim run began at Blenheim Memorial Park/Arena and brought in just over $6,460.
Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope in St. John's, Newfoundland, 43 years ago. After 143 days, he reached Thunder Bay, Ont., but his battle with cancer forced him to end his run. Tragically, he passed away on June 28, 1981, at the age of 22.
Since Terry Fox ran his Marathon of Hope in 1980, Canadians have raised more than $850 million for cancer research through annual Terry Fox events.
