In a bid to enhance its capacity to care for animals in need, Pet and Wildlife Rescue has kicked off its third annual Under One Roof campaign.
This year PAW Rescue has three objectives which include raising money for its daily operations, replenishing its emergency medical fund, and to continue raising awareness about its services.
“We are seeing more abandoned and surrendered animals, with longer stays as we experience a decrease in the number of adopters,” said PAW Rescue Operations Manager Myriam Armstrong. “This perfect storm has resulted in increased costs for food and medical care, which is putting strain on our operations.”
The campaign will run until December 25.
On average, PAW Rescue takes in approximately 3,000 animals a year.
With an average operational monthly cost of $115,000, one of its biggest expenses is veterinary care at approximately $20,000 a month.
"Although PAW Rescue has the contract with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to provide animal control services and by-law enforcement, those funds don’t cover the full cost of veterinary care nor animals care supplies," said Armstrong.
Last year's campaign raised a record-breaking $41,229.
