Doobie, cooking pot used as assault weapons

Criminals in Chatham-Kent appear to be getting creative with their weapons of choice.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested a 25-year-old Chatham man who allegedly flicked a lit marijuana cigarette at a woman in Tilbury Wednesday afternoon after he confronted her over a parking spot.

Police said the cigarette hit the woman in the forehead.

Officers said they were called to Fort Street just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for that neighbour dispute, adding that the man later turned himself in at the police station in Tilbury.

He was charged with assault with a weapon and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

In a separate case, Chatham-Kent police said they were called to a disturbance in Blenheim where a verbal argument between a man and a woman heated up to the point where the woman allegedly hit the man with a cooking pot.

Police got that call at 6:40 p.m. and said the man suffered a "minor physical injury."

A 36-year-old Dutton woman was arrested, charged with assault with a weapon, and was taken to police headquarters before she was released with conditions and a future court date.

Police round up three court skippers

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with three more people accused of skipping their scheduled court dates.

Police said they arrested the first of the three -- a 30-year-old Chatham man -- when they found him on Southend Crescent in Chatham just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

He had been wanted since December 8, when he failed to show up for a scheduled court appearance for an impaired driving investigation.

After his arrest on Wednesday, the man was later released with a future court date.

A 41-year-old Chatham-Kent man, who was also wanted for skipping a court appearance, was arrested near a church on Gregory Drive West in Chatham at around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers said they found him after they received a call about some suspicious activity near the church.

Police said they found the man behind the church and confirmed that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to make a scheduled court appearance for a breach of probation investigation.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

In the third case, police arrested a 28-year-old Wallaceburg woman who was wanted for failing to attend court for some theft investigations.

Officers said they found her on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg at 1:45 a.m. Thursday and arrested her.

She was taken to police headquarters where she was set to be held pending a bail hearing and is currently charged with resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, two counts of theft, and two counts of failing to attend court.
