A Quebec man has been arrested after allegedly committing a string of crimes including driving a stolen vehicle, fleeing police, and driving with no license plates.
According to police, at around 7:30 a.m. on Monday a member of the Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to stop a vehicle driving westbound on Highway 401 just outside of Chatham-Kent for not having license plates.
The vehicle refused to pull over and sped away from police. The OPP said that the officer did not continue to chase the driver in the interest of public safety.
Two hours later, Elgin OPP saw the same vehicle travelling eastbound on the 401 around the same area, where it again failed to stop for police. The vehicle was finally stopped 135 kilometres away, near Southwest Oxford Township.
Police determined the vehicle was stolen from a dealership in Hamilton.
A 49-year-old from Montreal has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, three counts of flight from a peace officer, careless driving and driving a motor vehicle with no plates.
