UPDATE: Environment Canada warns of torrential downpours

Torrential downpours associated with the remnants of Hurricane Beryl were expected Wednesday and Thursday.

Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning on Tuesday for Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Goderich, and Southern Huron County.

However, the rainfall warning was lifted for the listed areas on Wednesday afternoon.

The national weather agency said rainfall amounts of 40 to 80 millimetres were possible. Torrential downpours could have also resulted in rainfall rates of 20 to 40 mm per hour at times.

Although the rainfall warning has lifted, precipitation is expected to continue overnight Wednesday and early Thursday morning.

Beryl has been downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone. On Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said the storm was still capable of producing flash floods and tornadoes from mid-Mississippi to lower Ohio Valley.
