The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is updating its Parks and Recreation Master Plan and officials want to hear from you.
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan studies the existing park system, facilities, and recreation programming and provides a long-term vision for the municipality's park system, as well as specific policies and standards to direct day-to-day decisions, according to the municipality.
A public open house will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre, Meeting Room 1A, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The master plan will also help the municipality identify and prioritize new development of parks and recreation infrastructure, the delivery of services and programs, upgrades, and divestment to meet public needs over the next decade, said CK Director of Parks and Facilities Rob Pollock.
Pollock noted the open house will feature interactive presentation boards placed around the room for a walkthrough experience and will focus on several things including:
· Project Overview, Purpose, Background, and Study Area
· Goals & Objectives
· Parks and Facilities Inventory
· Trends and Best Practices
· Public Feedback
· Perception of the current parks and recreation systems
· Wants and Needs
· Next Steps
Staff will be available to answer questions from the public and receive comments during the session, said the municipality.
A survey has also been launched to update the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The survey is available by clicking here. Multiple surveys are available for varying age categories and they are open until August 9, 2024.
The plan will be adopted in late Spring 2025 after its presented to Council, Pollock said.
The current Parks and Recreation Master Plan was adopted in 2010.
