New Executive Director-Curator appointed for CK Black Historical Society & Black Mecca Museum

The Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society and Black Mecca Museum has announced the appointment of Doug Robbins as the new Executive Director-Curator.

"We are thrilled to welcome Doug as our new Executive Director-Curator. His proven leadership, dedication to community engagement, and expertise in historical preservation make him the perfect fit for this role," said Dorothy Wallace, the President of Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society and Black Mecca Museum. "We're confident that Doug will bring fresh energy and innovative ideas to help us further our mission of preserving and promoting Black history in Chatham-Kent and beyond."

Robbins brings a lot of experience in tourism, marketing, and business development as the former Director of Marketing for the African Heritage Network.

In his new role, Robbins will oversee non-profit operations such as grant writing, fundraising, and engaging with the community through outreach and programming. He'll also be in charge of initiatives including curating and managing museum exhibits, conducting guided tours, organizing community events, and preserving the Society's archival collections.

"I'm honoured to step into this role and work alongside the community to preserve and share the powerful stories of resilience, culture, and history," Robbins said of his appointment. "I look forward to leading new projects and ensuring that the rich heritage we safeguard reaches even more audiences."
