Striking postal workers and CK libraries partnering to collect letters to Santa

Kids in Chatham-Kent are still able to send their letters to Santa despite the ongoing strike by Canada Post workers.

Members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) Local 514 currently on the picket line across CK are still collecting the letters for Jolly Ol' Saint Nick.

"We've always been a big supporter of Santa and everything he does and we wanted to make sure that continued no matter what's going on with us," said Jeremy Suitor, president of CUPW Local 514.

He explained picketing hasn't been fun for them thanks to the recent cold and snowy weather across southern Ontario. The one bright spot has been kids giving them their letters to Santa.

"It puts a smile on everyone's face to be able to help out," Suitor added.

This is one of the tasks workers have agreed to do while striking. Before the work stoppage started on November 15, the two sides agreed that government cheques would also continue to be delivered.

"They're are a lot of people out there who still need that and we want to make sure we don't block that for anyone," said Suitor.

To help out, all branches of the Chatham-Kent Public Library will also be accepting letters to Santa. They'll be doing this until December 14 to ensure Santa has enough time to go over everyone's.
