The Municipality of Leamington has issued a warning after people misrepresenting themselves as employees gaining access to homes.
Complaints have been received from residents who say that individuals claiming to be from the Water Services Department tried to enter their homes under the pretense of inspecting water meters.
The individuals do not represent the Municipality and Ontario Provincial Police are aware, said Mayor Hilda MacDonald.
"We take the safety and security of our residents very seriously," said MacDonald. "We are working with law enforcement to address this matter and want to ensure our community remains informed and vigilant."
The Municipality will never conduct water meter inspections without providing prior notice to residents.
All water department employees wear official uniforms, carry identification, and use clearly marked municipal vehicles. Employees will have no issue with showing ID upon request.
If someone claiming to be a water department employee asks to enter your home for an inspection, call the Municipality at (519) 326-4454 to verify.
