Hydro One and province gives CK, Lakeshore area an early present

Hydro One is set to announce the early completion of a major transmission line from Chatham to Lakeshore.

Several dignitaries will be gathering just outside of Chatham on Monday afternoon to make the announcement.

The transmission line stretches from the Chatham Switching Station to a new Lakeshore Transformer Station and will add about 400 megawatts of power to the region.

That's enough energy to power a city the size of Windsor and very welcomed by the region's electric vehicle industry and greenhouse sector, which will rely on the new source of electricity.

Hydro One previously said completing the project a year ahead of schedule cut the cost by an estimated $15-million. The project was expected to cost $253-million.

President and CEO of Hydro One David Lebeter, Ontario Minister of Energy and Electrification Stephen Lecce, Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Trevor Jones, Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff, Lakeshore Mayor Tracey Bailey, and Essex County Warden Hilda MacDonald will all be attending.

Energy demand could quadruple by 2035 in southwestern Ontario.
