Police nab suspect wanted for stealing senior's gold bracelet

The law has come calling for a 19-year-old Chatham man who allegedly stole a bracelet from a local senior during an online marketplace transaction.

Chatham-Kent police said they received the initial theft report on December 6 last year, adding that the complainant was a 71-year-old Wallaceburg man who said he had agreed to meet a buyer to sell a gold bracelet valued at around $2,000.

When the man pulled out the bracelet to show it to the buyer, the buyer allegedly grabbed the item and took off running.

Police were notified, local pawn shops were alerted to the incident, and officers were able to identify a suspect in the case.

Investigators learned the next day, December 7, that the suspect had tried to resell the bracelet at a local business.

Witnesses were also able to confirm that the item and the suspect matched the previous description.

The suspect could not provide any proof of ownership and left the store.

Officers finally caught up with the man on Tuesday and arrested him in connection with the case.

A 19-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime and he was later released with conditions and a future court date.
