A Detroit business, popular with many in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, claims business has dropped 35 per cent since the U.S. started its trade war against Canada.
MyDetroitAddress.com provides Canadians with an address in the U.S. to send online purchases. The business, which is based in New Brunswick, said it helps Canadians buy products that are cheaper in the U.S. or not available in Canada.
Last month, the company closed two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Before, it was open for seven days a week.
It blames the trade war for the cut in hours but not American tariffs. In an email, MyDetroitAddresses Executive Team blamed Canada's reciprocal tariffs.
"We will not be able to remain open if this political environment does not change," said the executive team. "We will not be able to remain open if the Canadian reciprocal tariffs are not dropped."
"Our customer base is 99 per cent Canadian," said the email. "Our customers total 14,100 in Southern Ontario, with 95 per cent being in Windsor-Essex and the Chatham-Kent area."
