Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were out on roads, trails, and the water around Chatham-Kent for a six-day traffic initiative.
"The Elgin OPP urges all drivers and boaters to be aware of the risks associated with their driving or boating behaviour," said Inspector Tyler Holmes, OPP Elgin Detachment Commander.
The campaign was intended to highlight the importance of lifesaving equipment such as seatbelts, helmets and lifejackets.
Officers laid 242 traffic-related charges during the campaign.
This includes 144 speeding charges and 24 seatbelt charges.
According to police, speeding is the leading cause of injuries or death in traffic collisions.
The Canada Day campaign ran from June 27 until July 2.
