CK business leader chosen as one of country's best

A Councillor for the Walpole Island First Nation has been named one of the country's best young business leaders.

Matthew Nahdee was recently chosen to receive a Business Elite "40 Under 40" award. It's given each year to 40 of the best business leaders under the age of 40 in the country.

Nahdee told CK News Today he was caught off guard when he found out, simply because he doesn't know how they knew about him.

"I don't know how they found my name," he said. "Super cool and nice to be recognized, but a lot of what I do I don't do for recognition."

Nahdee added no one has come forward to say they nominated him. This is leading him to believe Business Elite may have found him on their own.

This wouldn't be surprising as he's one of Chatham-Kent's most well-known entrepreneurs. He currently runs 11 businesses, with work being done with several others.

"Always stuff cooking in the background," he said.

Some of the businesses he helps run include the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers, Firekeeper Business Incubator, and Whitefield Wholesale.

Nahdee is also a board member of the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce.

Meanwhile, Nahdee and the other 39 award recipients will be honoured on Thursday in Toronto. He plans on being a big advocate for Chatham-Kent and Walpole Island during the event.

"I love being a person that people can rely on in this community," he said.
