Chatham-Kent Public Library is reporting its branches had a good year last year with increased visits.
Council will get an update on Monday night by CK Manager of Public Services Stefanie Lawson.
In her report, Lawson noted the number of visits to the library increased by almost 4.4 per cent in 2024 compared to 2023 with 283,145 people visiting library branches.
The library branches also saw a total of 946,772 physical and electronic items borrowed and downloaded with a 28 per cent increase in virtual items borrowed.
They also had a jump in outreach connections and program offerings.
"Library staff provide meaningful programming to their communities and reach out to residents wherever they may be. Programming and outreach offerings and the number of residents attending have achieved another significant increase this year," said Lawson. "In 2024, the library continued to serve as a cornerstone of knowledge, inclusion, and community engagement. The significant increase in visits through the door showcases the importance of the library as a gathering place and the staff’s ability to explore new programs and services that best serve Chatham-Kent."
The CK Library also said new express checkout machines launched in 2024 make it easier for patrons to check out their own items if they choose and the self-checkout option allows staff to spend more time engaging with patrons.
