700 expected to get free Christmas dinner at CK restaurant

A local restaurant will host a free Christmas dinner for the second year in a row.

The meal, consisting of turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and more will be offered by Quo Vadis Pizzeria.

The restaurant will offer dine-in, take-out, and delivery options, noting that if you are looking for delivery, your order must be placed by December 22. But this year, the restaurant is including Christmas dinner baskets.

“We're also giving 20 turkey baskets this year for families who are in need, so it'll be anything to cook the Christmas meal,” said Harshana Fernando, owner of Quo Vadis Pizzeria.

The event is made possible through fundraising done by Quo Vadis Pizzeria employee Michael Day and Manager of the Elephant’s Nest, Kristy Gold.

Last year, the pizzeria fed close to 500 people, and this year they are expecting even more.

“This year we are expecting a lot more, so we're going to aim for at least 700. We'll make sure we have enough food for at least 700, but if we have more, we'll figure something out after,” said Fernando.

The event was first introduced by Day, but Fernando and his restaurant have embraced the giving season.

“We opened up the restaurant, and we let anybody who wants to come, come and have a turkey dinner. And I think how the economy is going and everything else too, there's a lot of people who are struggling right now, so we wanted to help out even more,” said Fernando.

The restaurant will be open from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Christmas Day, and those looking for take-out or delivery can contact the Chatham location at (519) 351-2333.
