Second year forward Alessandro Di Iorio has been named the captain of the Sarnia Sting hockey club.
Di Iorio was selected second overall by the Sting in the 2024 OHL draft, and has established himself as a key piece of the organization.
Head Coach Mathieu Turcotte said he's a dynamic forward who demonstrates maturity, professionalism, and a team-first mentality.
"Our goal was to identify someone that embodied what we wanted our team to look like going forward,” said Turcotte. “Someone who put the team first, is well respected by his teammates and someone who has a high compete level and great work ethic. Alessandro is the person to lead this team and organization to the next level."
The "C" was left vacant after Lukas Fischer was traded to the Soo Greyhounds.
Beckham Edwards, Mitch Young, Ryan Brown (Home), and Hughston Hurt (Away) will each serve as assistant captains.
So far this season, Di Iorio has six points in 11 games after missing the first part of the year due to injury.
He put up 11 goals and 27 assists in 58 games last season.
Di Iorio is an "A" rated prospect ahead of the 2026 NHL draft, according to NHL Central Scouting, which means he's a candidate to be taken in the first round.
He and Edwards will be competing in the Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game, January 14, 2026 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
