CK Public Health issues second tainted drug supply warning of 2026

Emergency workers in Chatham-Kent are dealing with an increase in overdoses.

According to CK Public Health, there have been 13 opioid-related EMS calls over the past five days.

It's believed some of these overdoses are being caused by strong tranquilizers in the local drug supply.

CK Public Health is encouraging people to call 911 immediately if they believe someone is overdosing and to have a naloxone kit on hand at all times.

The organization is also providing tips to drug users, knowing that many are addicted and can't simply stop. These tips include never using alone, avoiding taking drugs in a locked room, refusing to mix drugs, and using test strips to ensure there's nothing added like fentanyl.

This is not the first warning from CK Public Health about a potentially tainted drug supply. In January, the organization explained that medetomidine, an extremely potent sedative and analgesic for small animals, had been found in the supply.
